Creepy or Comforting…?

I’ve been writing for years : “The machines aren’t coming for your jobs! They already have them!” and here is another step in a steady chnage. That change is only steady in that it can be predicted. As we make a certain change that facilitates another few, things speed up. A few more changes into the process, things sped up even more. We’re looking at a slowly building line that over time ( but not a lot of it!) goes from mostly “horizontal” to one that is nearly vertical.

Take a deep breath. Get used to the change and be nimble, because there is nothing short of a dinosaur event meteor will stop these changes,

I’ve done a very unscientific polls of friends, and being mostly like minded their reaction to this was somewhat predictable: “If I need someone to talk to that badly then I’ll tell my dog. At least I know that he won’t blab to anyone else”.

Others went a bit further: “Why not just call them up directly and tell them your secrets? Do away with the middleman.”(The A.I.).

Although two people mentioned the need for (and possible dearth of) mental health that follows in the wake of “the Covid that never went away”.

“It isn’t another person, but it might be helpful to tell …someone. It might make you feel better.”

“And who is to say that this is maybe version 5 or 6, and by working with it, we help enable a much higher level of understanding and allowing for “being only Human” to actually be encompassed and understood by a machine.

And there you have summarized “in a nutshell”, every advance that we will see in the next few years. Pretty soon I expect, you’ll follow that curve “up”.

About Zaslow Crane

Zaslow Crane wrote his first Science fiction story when he was 11 This was after an uncle had given him a Charmin case full of sci fi paperbacks- all the old masters: A.E.Van Vogt, Cordwainer Smith, Heinlen, Bradbury, and dozens more. After that, he never looked back. Zaslow Crane has contributed to numerous magazines and newspapers over many years, and has been a contributing editor for a national magazine. He has been published a couple hundred times for non fiction. Regarding fiction, he writes primarily SciFi and was one of the creative talents behind Smoke and Mirrors, a parsec nominated podcast that "re-imagined" the Twilight Zone and, which ran for 2 1/2 years. He has written over two hundred short stories, 7 or 8 novellas and two novels, one of which "explains" a great many advancements in human technology. He likes mindless sort of work, because it frees that other part of his brain to work on story ideas, so if you see him, say, digging a ditch, you'll know that he’s really writing. He lives in a tiny house on a hill in Central California. His home overlooks the ocean - IF you're willing to stand on tip toes and crane your neck. Just a bit.
