I suddenly have a lot of Extra Time on my hands #3
I recently had a plumber out to my house and discovered that he was inept. This started me thinking.
Why is “inept” a word and “ept” not? I can be “uncouth” at times, but never “couth”; I pride myself on being “kempt” whenever possible, but it is that one time in a great while when I am “unkempt” I WILL see someone I know if I go out. Then, I may “unravel”, but later I doubt if I’ll ever “ravel” excepting “Bolero”, of course.
In my “travels”, I found this:
A Very Descript Man, it is attributed to a J. H. Parker. Circa1940
I am such a dolent man,
I eptly work each day;
My acts are all becilic,
I’ve just ane things to say.
My nerves are strung, my hair is kempt,
I’m gusting and I’m span:
I look with dain on everyone
And am a pudent man.
I travel cognito and make
A delible impression:
I overcome a slight chalance,
With gruntled self-possesion.
My, dignation would be great
If I should digent be:
I trust my vagance will bring
An astrous life for me.
I am ‘ept” as heck, dammit!
